Wayfair Data Science powers automation & decision support across all Wayfair business units. Our algorithms tackle a varied & broad spectrum of challenges in the Wayfair marketplace. From empowering suppliers to easily add products to our catalog to enabling our customers to discover and purchase a vast and diverse assortment of home goods, providing them the necessary sales and service support along their journey

The forecasting science team consists of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and economists who are responsible for owning and managing large-scale forecasting systems to enable demand planning and supply maximization. We develop econometric, statistical, machine learning, and hybrid forecasting models to drive operational excellence throughout our supply chain.

We’re looking for an Associate Director with a background in time series and ML forecasting to lead the Forecasting Science team at Wayfair. This leader will own the vision and execution of a broad portfolio of initiatives, spanning a range of internal stakeholder groups that govern the production of demand forecasts at various granularities and integration with downstream supply planning systems. The primary focus will be on developing algorithmic systems for:

  1. Demand forecasting for inventory replenishment
  2. Substitution-aware forecasting
  3. Causal and what-if simulations
  4. Development of forecasting platform/products with a focus on re-use across adjacent forecasting use-cases

What You’ll Do 

  • Lead a team of data scientists, economists, and machine learning engineers in developing next-generation forecasting products
  • Formulate team strategy and priorities in the forecasting space while identifying and solving high-impact ML problems
  • Collaborate with product, analytics, engineering, and other teams to develop robust and scalable platform solutions
  • Mentor and empower team members and develop a high-performance team culture

What You’ll Need

  • 6+ years of experience leading multi-disciplinary technical teams of scientists, analysts, and engineers of varying levels of experience. Track record of developing and managing high-performing teams
  • 3+ years experience managing technical or science teams in forecasting
  • Thorough command of general data science, machine learning, and time series techniques
  • Track record of delivering large cross-functional projects and managing multiple stakeholders with competing priorities
  • Communication skills that can influence across organizations and at all levels - Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to synthesize conclusions for non-experts
