Job Description

Verily employees combine expertise in engineering, machine learning, biology, and medicine to change the way healthcare happens. Our work spans three primary areas: research, innovation, and care; the focus of the internship is on the first two. Verily Israel is particularly interested in medical problems that can be solved by the application of algorithms in machine learning, computer vision, and signal processing, including problems that involve the use of novel sensors.

Verily Israel has focused on problems in endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery, and is currently expanding this scope to include other biomedical problems of interest. Other large scale Verily programs include Project Baseline - our research initiative to increase participation and evidence generation in clinical research; Onduo - our chronic disease management platform, which began with type 2 diabetes; and Debug - our effort to reduce the threat of mosquito-borne diseases by combining machine learning with sterile insect technique. We’re also actively working to combat the spread of COVID-19 through new programs like Healthy at Work.

Responsibilities

• Research Interns will be assigned to work directly with Research Scientists or Research Software Engineers.
• The intern will focus on a technical / algorithmic problem of interest to the Israel team: generally speaking, the application of deep learning and computer vision to medical problems.
• The intern will be responsible for implementing a solution in code, as well as possibly contributing to one or more academic publications.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Authorization to work in Israel.
• Must be enrolled in a graduate program (MSc or PhD) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or an allied discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Enrolled in a PhD program.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively.
