About You

The Protagonist Intern has a passion for understanding the deeply held beliefs -- the narratives -- that drive critical issues. Our Machine Learning (ML) Engineer Intern supports the continued development of our internal tools that comprise our Narrative Analytics offering—a suite of ML and natural language processing (NLP) capabilities that work to distill the beliefs of populations around the world, as expressed in online conversations. You have a passion for applying innovative ML and NLP solutions to solve hard problems, are deeply data-savvy, and have outstanding technical skills.

Primary Responsibilities

Over the course of the internship, the Intern will take an active role in development of new machine learning models leveraging state of the art technology. The intern will be working with our current Machine Learning Engineers and our Director of Technology to understand end-user requirements and build solutions that will be used in our internal applications.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Analyzing complex problems, and iterating and persisting towards a sustainable technical solution.
• Developing prototype models with the goal of bring the model to production. 
• Collaborating with team members on iterations of code development. 
• Leveraging GPU infrastructure to train and run models.

Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science or related field
• Authorized to work in the US
• Must be able to work on US Government contracts that require US citizenship; existing security clearance (SECRET or higher) a plus
• Experience in Python
• Experience with PyTorch or Sklearn or Tensorflow
• Experience with Pandas
• Experience with deep learning and other machine learning and or methods; knowledge of neural networks and specifically multilayered/ deep learning networks
• Strong math knowledge
• Knowledge of Transformers architectures is a plus
• Experience with Git or other source code management
