Project Description
Students will test, develop and apply deep learning software using Tensorflow 2 and Python. The primary objective of the project is to demonstrate the use of physics-informed generative adversarial networks (PIGANS) to learn and quantify the variability in aerospace materials based on a small number of laboratory tests. Once trained, the PIGANs can be used to generate an infinite number of virtual tests for certification purposes. For example, this might include downstream Monte Carlo analysis using the PIGAN's generation capability and a finite element code to investigate crack growth behavior in the material. While previous deep learning and Python experience is not a requirement, competitive applicants will have at least some exposure to both. Students will work remotely as part of a research team based at NASA Langley Research Center. Two openings are available, and both interns will be working closely together but on different aspects of the project.
