At Capella we are all about making it simple to get the most out of SAR imagery, from making it easy to task and download imagery, to extracting measurements, to producing derived analytics products. The Capella Analytics & Machine Learning team is responsible for researching, creating, building, and operating algorithms and models that automate the extraction of information & insight out of our SAR imagery. No direct SAR experience is required, but it’s definitely a plus. If you’re used to imagery (remote-sensing or otherwise), SAR is a whole different beast, and we believe that vertical integration – our full control over the sensor itself & the tasking system & the analytics that run on top – will enable never-before-possible capabilities.
You’ll be joining the Platform Engineering team; your peers are operating the satellites, building and operating the ground system, the scheduling system, the signal processor/image-former, and building APIs and GUIs.
About the Role
Capella is looking for a Head of Analytics & Machine Learning to lead the Analytics team. You’ll lead the analytics team day-to-day to execute on projects, build and architect backend systems & infrastructure, build new models/algorithms and improve existing ones, collect data/imagery and expand our repository of labels & annotations. You’ll also own relationships with vendors and partners (related to data: labeling, ML model training/deployment & performance monitoring, etc.).
This role requires tight collaboration with the product team, and you’ll own and execute the analytics roadmap and communicate it widely within the company.
You’ll also collaborate broadly with a wide range of teams from engineers developing and maintaining the image processing, engineers designing and building satellites, engineers managing the automated operations, to team members from sales and customer success teams working with our customers daily. Your influence won’t be limited to a single department, you will be able to advise on the optimal tasking and operations of the satellite to acquire the highest quality data for different applications and even the satellite and overall constellation design.
