Given the expanding scope of the Research Informatics group's operations, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to continue to build on the existing team to achieve this goal and be a champion of promoting data sciences as an integral part of our business.

Research Informatics at Eurofins Discovery plays a fundamental part of building an understanding of the role targets & pathways play in disease as well as assessing and enabling decision making around hits, leads, and their optimization towards Candidates. You will be working closely with our chemistry and biology scientists to develop innovative approaches that help drive projects and identify solutions for our clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the investigation, implementation, adoption and utilization of state-of-the art data science methods and tools (custom, open-source or commercial) to help drive drug discovery activities;
  • Collects data through means such as analyzing large scientific datasets or by extending company‘s data with third party sources of information, and transfers data into a new format to make it more appropriate for analysis;
  • Creates new, experimental frameworks to collect data, transform and analyze data;
  • Enhances data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems;
  • Builds tools to automate data collection, synchronization and clean up;
  • Creates data visualization tools, reports and presentations for business and scientific purposes;
  • Searches through large data sets for usable information;
  • Correlate data to find actionable results;
  • Develops algorithms and data models that allow to execute predictive analytics;
  • Writes structured, tested, readable and maintainable code, as well as participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge for existing and new tools that allow to extract, analyze, visualize and produce valued added insights of data for our customers;
  • Represents data science as the subject matter expert in cross-functional drug discovery projects involving internal and external scientists;
  • Independently pursue research projects, implement novel data science workflows and support a dynamic multi-disciplinary team focused on moving projects from the hit identification stage to the discovery of candidates;
  • Actively involved in digital transformation projects and data governance objectives working closely with IT and scientific teams;
  • Ensure proper documentation of workflows, reports, data structure, tools, and analyses of the Research Informatics’ team;
  • Provide transparency and regular communication on project status, potential roadblocks for execution, and new strategies with Technology Sciences leadership;
  • Owns the accountability and responsibility of delivering to client needs and timeliness;
  • Adjusts work hours as needed to meet client deadlines;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate would possess:

  • Ph.D. in Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics or related discipline;
  • Knowledge using chemical and bioinformatics libraries preferably in a drug discovery environment;
  • Awareness of relevant public and proprietary databases, methods and tools;
  • Familiarity on machine learning frameworks and libraries;
  • Track record of scientific accomplishment demonstrated by publications, patents, or presentations.
  • Ph.D. in Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics or related discipline;
  • Knowledge using chemical and bioinformatics libraries preferably in a drug discovery environment;
  • Awareness of relevant public and proprietary databases, methods and tools;
  • Familiarity on machine learning frameworks and libraries;
  • Track record of scientific accomplishment demonstrated by publications, patents, or presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a research program environment and generate hypotheses from computational analysis of data that are strategically aligned with organizational goals and resources;
  • A mentor and coach who brings relevant experiences building a diverse team from scratch to enable long term success for data sciences applied to Drug Discovery.
     
  • Basic Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Life Sciences or related fields;
  • 5-7 years of professional experience;
  • Proficient with one or more programming languages (Java, C++, Python, R, etc.);
  • Experience with data visualization tools, SQL and non SQL databases;
  • Demonstrated experience applying data science methods to real-world data problems;
  • Experience utilizing visualization tools to take advantage of the growing volume of available information;
  • Skilled with relational, non-relational, big data and big data analytics databases;
  • Deep knowledge of math, probability, statistics and algorithms.
  • Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Life Sciences or related fields;
  • 5-7 years of professional experience;
  • Proficient with one or more programming languages (Java, C++, Python, R, etc.);
  • Experience with data visualization tools, SQL and non SQL databases;
  • Demonstrated experience applying data science methods to real-world data problems;
  • Experience utilizing visualization tools to take advantage of the growing volume of available information;
  • Skilled with relational, non-relational, big data and big data analytics databases;
  • Deep knowledge of math, probability, statistics and algorithms. 
  • Successful completion of the company’s safety program is required.
  • Travels to other Eurofins facilities is required. Percentage of working time of approximately 10-15%.
