About the Role

As our Software Engineering Manager, you'll take the wheel in building the customer data platform that will accelerate insight generation and promote a self-democratized data environment for Gojek. As Gojek is undergoing exponential growth, our data has followed the same growth curve. Thus, as an integral member of the Data Engineering team, you'll be at the epicenter of one of Southeast Asia's most coveted companies, and get to witness and solve the challenges that come with rapid scaling.

In this role, you'll get to lead a team of engineers who build data governance platforms, including data catalog, data protection, data quality, and data lineage. With your expertise in software development and data products, you’ll be instrumental in driving our team closer to our ultimate goal of building a world-class, fault-tolerant customer data platform, and ensuring everything the team does is working in harmony with Gojek’s goals and values.

What You Will Do

• Lead a team of Software Engineers focused on improving analyst velocity and impact across Gojek’s diverse project areas and platforms
• Provide technical expertise throughout the product life cycle, including design, implementation, and delivery of scalable build/test/release infrastructure
• Partner with Product Managers to decide vision, strategy and OKRs
• Mentor your engineers to ensure their growth and engagement within the team; evaluate and balance team workload, develop a staffing plan, and delegate projects to ensure everyone is producing high quality work, and to increase predictability
• Assess and manage team performance through staff meetings, one on ones, and quarterly assessments
• Serve as the primary interface to the staffing team, identifying sources for candidates, conducting interviews, and shepherding candidates through the process

What You Will Need

• At least 8 years of relevant software development experience, preferably with experience in data products; at least 2 years of leading and monitoring an engineering team to success
• A hands-on leadership style; enjoys writing code every day (knowledge in Go-lang, Java and/or Python is preferable)
• Ability to understand and implement Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery
• Well-versed with Agile methodologies, TDD, Test Engineering, and Automation
• Ability to plan, prioritize, estimate, and execute releases with a strong degree of predictability
• Ability to scope, review, and refine user stories for technical completeness, and to alleviate dependency risks
• An understanding in data modeling for data warehouse, relational database, and non-relational database

About the Team

Our Data Engineering (DE) team has over 20 members based in Bengaluru and Jakarta. At Gojek, our products generate a tremendous amount of data, but that’s only step one. We’re constantly making use of that data by giving value back to our customers, merchant-partners, and driver-partners in the form of recommendations and other customizations. Our team is responsible for building the platform and products to manage the entire life cycle of data.
