Janssen Research & Development is hiring for a Senior Data Scientist for our World Without Disease Accelerator (WWDA) and Lung Cancer Initiatives (LCI) Team. The position is based in Cambridge, MA with flexibility to also be based in Horsham, PA or Fort Washington, PA or New Brunswick, NJ. Remote US work will be considered.

We are looking for a talented and collaborative candidate who share this view and are passionate about developing Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI/ML) to support early detection, interception, and prevention of diseases with data-driven decisions. This individual will play a key scientific role in generating AI innovations to extract deep clinical insights from data such as medical images and time-series signals.

Successful candidate will have experience working with inter-disciplinary teams and generate clinically impactful AI innovations. As a member of the Digital Data Science team, you will be able to leverage unique datasets to train and validate ML models that can be used to improve diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in applied machine learning. He/she will inform data acquisition, perform data harmonization, conduct training and validation of advanced ML algorithms.

Responsibilities:

Working in collaboration with computational, biological, and clinical scientists across the J&J organization, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Propose, develop, and validate advanced ML algorithms to improve clinical decision making (e.g., risk stratification, patient selection, etc.).
  • Implement and deploy proof-of-concept ML model
  • Keep abreast of the latest ML techniques that can be utilized to improve classification/prediction performance and interpretability.
  • Interface with internal and external collaborators on data and algorithm transfers.
  • Effectively communicate and present scientific results to team members and collaborators.

Qualifications

  • Master/Ph.D. degree in machine learning, data science, or related quantitative field
  • Strong hands-on experience in the Python toolkit for data manipulation and machine learning (e.g., numpy, scikit-learn, tensorflow, pytorch).
  • Highly skilled in the implementation, finetuning and transfer learning of computer vision (CV) based deep neural networks (DNN)
  • Self-motivated with proven problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent verbal and written English language skills prerequisite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of working experience on healthcare projects
  • Experience in applying deep learning and transfer learning in the field of medical image analysis.
  • Expertise with AWS tools desirable (Redshift, DynamoDB, SageMaker, etc).
  • Domain knowledge in one or more types of solid tumor (e.g., lung cancer)
