Job Summary

(This position is eligible for Remote-US work)

The Data Science intern will bring a passion for geospatial analysis and data visualization and create targeted analyses, maps, and data visualizations that help Veo convey and improve the quality and value of our service to our partner cities and universities, elected officials, and the broader public. Analytical methods will be guided by cross-functional teams as well as the Analytics team, which will draw on a wide range of Veo’s internal data, as well as existing external data sets such as census data and public transit ridership.

Responsibilities

• Create informative visualizations (maps, dashboards, etc.) combining data from multiple sources
• Compile statistics/data related to micromobility, rider personas, housing, demographics, land use, and transportation into functional databases
• Work creatively with cross-functional teams to develop impactful visual resources to educate policy-makers and activists on issues around micromobility
• Conduct Product and Policy research for longer term reports and projects critical to maximizing accessible ridership
• Support the creation of infographics and maps for company pitch decks, Request for Proposal responses, and communications materials
• Identify and support the ingestion of key external data sources critical to building critical strategies

Qualifications

• Strong writing, research, and communications skills
• At least a senior undergraduate (graduate level preferred) in a technical field (Political Science, Socioeconomics, Public Health, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, etc.)
• 1 year of GIS or general geospatial data experience
• Creative – experience developing intuitive graphics, videos, audio, maps, etc. to convey key insights
• Ability to work independently and juggle multiple tasks
• Enthusiasm for policy work to improve access to micromobility
• Proficiency with applied mathematics, statistics and experience in cleaning data (preferred)
• Background knowledge of urban planning, public policy, or transportation (preferred, but not required)
• Constantly curious and eager to use datasets to answer key questions that unlock value
• Experience using Python along with key visualization tools such Dash, plotly, seaborn, bokeh, etc.
• Experience using BI tools such as Tableau or Looker a plus
