The System Intelligence and Machine Learning (SIML) group is responsible for crafting machine learning solutions to extract high level structure information from images, videos and text shipping on all Apple platforms (macOS, iOS, tvOS, watchOS). Examples include face recognition, scene classification, OCR, handwriting recognition as well as the support for internal tools. The group combines research and development in a dynamic and engaging environment.

Our data team is responsible for designing and building high quality datasets at scale. At the heart of machine learning, data defines how Apple features and products operate and what is the final user experience that will impact millions of our customers. Key Qualifications

  • Excellent attention to detail with a passion for problem solving, investigation, and root cause analysis
  • Capacity to multitask and manage several projects in parallel while meeting deadlines and providing clear communication to stakeholders
  • Problem-solving & critical thinking capacities, with an eye for innovation and continuous optimization (improving the diversity and quality of assets, reducing time to delivery and cost)
  • Ability to maintain and develop relationships with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent project management, communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Ability to run shell scripting (bash/zsh), python as needed

Description

  • Our team focuses on setting up workflows examining assets and labels of incoming datasets. SIML QA ensures that Research and Development receive only high-quality datasets to train machine learning models powering continuous feature development. Our team supports our data collection and annotation teams, providing all datasets supplied to R&D are complete, accurate, and consistent in support of Apple’s commitment to delivering incredible experiences to a global and diverse set of users.
  • You will be leading and managing data quality projects end to end and ensuring the quality of the data delivered to R&D.

THIS REQUIRES THE CANDIDATE TO:

  • Define/design/develop data quality workflows that focus on anticipating potential failure modes, analyzing edge cases, detecting anomalies, and verifying accurate trends and data analysis
  • Establish quality programs and process control plans for early detection of issues ensuring the highest level of quality and reliability
  • Incorporate lessons learned from annotation/collection projects into design and process improvements for next- generation QA workflows and methodologies by leading impactful retrospectives
  • Exercise independent discretion and judgment to apply technical principles to complex projects
  • Lead internal/external quality analysts to support annotation/collection QA, presenting reports about discovered problems and statistics to the project team
  • Define quality strategy, roadmap, and provide technical expertise and leadership throughout the data request life cycle to ensure the final dataset meets the customer’s quality expectations
  • Run quality assurance/quality control checks for all pilot and production phase projects and report quality findings to the project team
  • Connect with Collection/Annotation/R&D teams to understand the expectations and specs of each project to ensure high-quality data is received by reducing subjectivity and ensuring guidelines are clear and are comprehendible by vendors and supporting teams

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent practical experience
