Job Description

Slack is seeking a Director of Engineering to join the leadership of our Files team! Our team’s mission is to create a central way for teams to share and collaborate with files and assets. As a technical leader, you will help drive the future of Files at Slack by improving the native files experience and building on our existing and new integrations. You will collaborate with engineers and leaders across pillars in product, platform and infrastructure engineering to help us shape and build a new solution to curate Slack objects and create and collaborate around long-form content inside Slack. This is a critical, high impact role where you will define and lead the strategic and technical direction, along with culture and execution.

What you will be doing

• Lead, hire and grow a team of senior/staff backend, frontend, and engineers in delivering scalable features to our customers
• Lead projects from discovery to delivery, driving initiatives that impact the larger team of 50+ engineers, EMs, PMs and TPMs
• Drive product roadmap and execution, and participate in technical design
• Drive large initiatives by collaborating across various pillars and stakeholders
• Represent your team to internal and external audiences with differing levels of technical proficiency
• Effectively communicating across the product development team and company
• Build a diverse team while encouraging a collaborative and inclusive environment

What you should have

• 5+ years engineering management experience, managing global product feature teams
• Experience concurrently leading multiple teams and managers, and establishing and measuring OKRs
• Experience recruiting, managing, fostering and retaining talent on a technical team
• Ability to ship complex projects in an environment with multiple dependencies in a high impact area
• High level of accountability, bias to action and a desire to empower individuals on the team to perform at their best
• Experience interacting with customers, senior executives, and business leads
