Job Description

• A position R&D Satellite Image Machine Learning Expert is now open in Airbus Defence Intelligence. The successful applicant joining the Airbus Defence and Space Intelligence R&D team will have the responsibility to develop new machine learning approaches applied to Airbus Defence and Space satellite imagery.
• The position is located in Airbus Defence and Space Intelligence Toulouse facility. The R&D team is composed of 8 researchers. The team working closely with all departments (Business development, Sales, Operations…) has the responsibility to create new innovative features in line with the market and future needs.

Activities

Airbus Defense and Space operates one of the best in class satellite constellation. The images acquired by the satellites are processed by a processing suite developed in house. It produces a large set of products from the raw imagery to highly elaborated analytics.

Since six years the company is evolving from an on premise data center infrastructure to a more open and scalable cloud environment. A first cloud operational service, OneAtlas, has been opened in September 2016.

The cloud infrastructure is offering a new range of opportunities for the research team. The millions of images acquired by the satellites for 30 years are on line and ready for enabling new sets of capabilities. The availability of the images on one side, the power of the cloud on the other brings the capacity to deploy the analytics at the earth scale.

The candidate as part of the R&D team will perform researches and developments on satellite images to create new processing, analytics and services for OneAtlas. He/She will work in a startup spirit mode. He/She should be passionate by satellite imagery, Earth Observation, Machine Learning, mathematics and computer science. He/She should be opened to new cloud technologies such as machine learning, analytics, big data... He/She should look for developing new innovative applications in close collaboration with the business. As most of the image processing will be based on machine learning technics, he/she should be experienced in developing Machine learning technologies for Earth Observation.

Curious and passionate, he / she knows how to look for information and remain at the state of the art in a highly evolving machine learning landscape. Autonomous, he / she is able to take in charge researches themes, to discuss the objectives with the different actors, and to bring it to an end in coherence with the operational imperatives of the company.

Finally, with good communication skills including English, he / she will interact with support teams and internal or external clients / partners. A strong customer orientation with good listening skills and the search for innovative solutions is an important aspect of the job.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Required know how for the position

• A scientific academic background (applied mathematics, physics, remote sensing) with a university degree or engineer
• At least 1 year of experience in the field of Deep Learning and be familiar with Deep Learning environments (Python, Jupyter, OpenCV, GitLab, Keras, PyTorch) as well as with the Google Cloud Platform (Compute, AppEngine, Docker, CloudML).
• Knowledge in image processing
• Remote sensing, mathematical modeling, statistics and development (DevOps) are highly desirable
• Good communication skills in order to interact with support teams and internal or external clients / partners.
• A strong customer orientation with good listening skills and the search for innovative solutions is an important aspect of the job.
• A negotiation level of English is required.
