Grade H - Responsible for delivering relevant analysis and modelling to provide commercial insight, utilising relationships to stay up to date with internal developments in statistical techniques, whilst identifying process improvements and applying insights from the external environment.

About the opportunity:
In 2020, we announced an exciting new strategy, reimagining bp from an integrated oil company to an integrated energy company. Identified as one of the integrator business groups, Trading and Shipping (T&S) will play a key role in helping bp transform and deliver on its ambitions by linking businesses across the energy value chains. T&S is bp's face to the traded markets in oil, gas, power, bio, low-carbon and finance.

The Market Development and Innovation (MDI) team was crafted to be the integrator within T&S, driving and implementing the strategic priorities. Our team consists of specialists in Strategy, Data, Product Innovation (technology), Portfolio Management and Modernisation.

As we focus on the future of T&S, we know data is an integral part of our business model. It helps us to drive pricing, operational efficiency, and new market opportunities. We are cultivating data as an asset and looking to monetize it in new ways. This is where you step in!

About the role:
The Data Monetization Specialist will help us drive commercial value from our data in a safe and secure manner. This new role will work alongside the T&S commercial and innovation teams.
Reporting into the EMEA Data Governance Specialist, you will…

• leverage your commercial acumen to work with business leads and the Data Office to proactively identify new value creation from data.
• apply valuations to data sets for internal prioritisation and potential new monetisation.
• work closely with Innovation and the Trading Analytics teams to manage a pipeline of data experiments, identifying new revenue opportunities.
• help to deliver a data marketplace to facilitate the use and monetization of data.
• build innovative controls to allow distributed data to be tracked and ensure appropriate commercial terms are implemented to support new revenues.
• act as an agent of change to champion best practices and assist leaders in driving a cultural shift around the value of data.

About you:
We are seeking someone with a creative spark and experience in creating financial frameworks for data and creating data analytics.

Essential criteria:

• Experience in a commercial and data related business.
• demonstrable capability of financial modelling and basic analytics.
• experience with SQL queries.
• a strong understanding of how data can generate value and support business operations.
• an excellent communicator who is all about the details.
• an individual who is comfortable working across multiple departments in a global organisation to deliver change.
• demonstrated experience engaging with business users to foster and promote new concepts.

Desirable criteria:

• experience in the energy sector or financial markets.
• an understanding of how data is acquired across multiple industries.
• an appreciation of machine learning applications and the related data requirements.
• a passion toward data science and innovation.
