Job Description

This position supports a department or function by performing assigned tasks or assisting with assigned projects, allowing the intern to gain an understanding of the business function.

Currently we are unable to consider candidates for remote opportunities in the following states: California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Illinois and Washington

This position supports Castell Data Science. Interns will work together with Data Science teams to apply industry leading data science and artificial intelligence (AI) practices to deliver on Intermountain Healthcare’s mission to “Help people have the healthiest lives possible”; making healthcare more affordable and higher quality; and making a difference in the patients and communities we serve. Data Scientists develop end-to-end data science applications that apply predictive, prescriptive, and cognitive analytic methods to system-wide clinical and operational strategic initiatives.

Participates and is involved in a variety of projects that support the needs of the department / facility. Works with the members of the team to identify solutions and perform tasks that accomplish individual and team goals. Attends team / department meetings and actively participate / take on opportunities to share knowledge and skills that are pertinent to the meeting. Gains knowledge of the department's / facilities functions. Will be assigned one or more specific projects during the internship. Demonstrates an understanding of the process and accountability for the results / outcomes Works independently or as a member of a team to accomplish the tasks necessary to successfully complete the project. Involves others when needed in a timely manner and work to meet project timelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Student in business fields (Finance, Communications, Marketing, HR, legal, etc.), who is in their third or fourth year of an undergraduate program at an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail and scheduling applications.

Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to efficiently manipulate, combine, and analyze large and/or complex data sets
  • Experience applying machine learning models to impact operational outcomes
  • Graduate or upper level Undergraduate student related field such as statistics, data science, applied mathematics, computer science, information systems, or other quantitative and computational discipline. Education is verified.
  • Understanding of multiple statistical and machine learning modeling techniques
  • Experience using quantitative, procedural and statistical programming languages such as R, Python, SQL, Spark, and Matlab
  • Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
