Job Description

As an Associate Research Scientist or Research Scientist, you support our strategic efforts and develop innovative solutions to challenging business problems by utilizing scientific methods and problem solving. You have an in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in Process Systems Engineering with expertise in Mathematical modeling and/or Data Science methods. You perform research across multiple disciplines while developing and implementing technical solutions through hands-on experimentation and problem-solving. You can also solve complex research problems and takes a new perspective on existing solutions.

Also, you can complete each of the following responsibilities:

• Apply principles of operations research and chemical engineering (such as process systems engineering, process modeling and optimization methods) to solve problems in R&D, Manufacturing, Business Product R&D, Purchasing, and Commercial functions

• Drive value generation for team through identification of new project opportunities and delivering on key projects.
• Keep current with developments in relevant area of technology and identify and implement applications which will benefit Dow. Have an in-depth understanding of the patent and journal literature across adjacent areas of technology.
• Develop robust communication strategies and implements a range of effective communication methods that inform and influence; effectively utilizes organizational networking to influence decision making.
• Document methodology, knowledge and technology developed in internal reports and presentations. When appropriate, publish work externally in alignment with business and technical strategies. Draft and submit patent disclosures and patent applications as appropriate.
• Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of business ambitions, goals, and strategies and can articulate team role.
• Foster a safe work environment, leading by example and taking initiative to identify and address potential risks. Understands and follows appropriate EH&S standards, policies andprocedures applicable to their job.

Required qualifications:

• A minimum of a PhD in Chemical Engineering or other related Engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – position requires strong interaction in a multi-functional team environment.
• Strong Problem-solving skills, systems thinking and business acumen. Ability to quickly understand the domain knowledge and develop solutions.
• Strong background in one or more of following: Process Systems Engineering, Mathematical Optimization methods, Machine Learning, Statistics methods

Preferred qualifications include:

• PhD in Chemical Engineering with specialization in Process Systems Engineering
• Proven track record of creating value by developing innovative solutions to complex technical issues by using mathematical optimization or Data Science approaches.
• Documented track record of technical documentation and external publications
• Strong-coding skills in one or more of the following languages: Python, R, Matlab, SQL
• Experience with one or more of the mathematical modeling or machine learning frameworks: AIMMS, GAMS, Pyomo, PyTorch, Sci-Kit Learn, TensorFlow
• Familiar with software practices like version control (e.g. Git), containerization (e.g. Docker), and API architectures (e.g. REST)
