Your Responsibilities

As a Principal Data Scientist for John Deere’s Intelligent Services Group (ISG), you will join a team leveraging petabyte-scale datasets for advanced analytics and model building in order to enable intelligent, automated equipment and improve decisions by farmers and ag service providers. Our team partners with product managers and data engineers to design, scale, and deliver full stack data science solutions. Join a team that is passionate about making a difference by applying cutting edge technology to solve some of the world's biggest problems. In addition, you will:\

  • Develop, evaluate, and deliver production-ready models for vehicle routing, logistics planning, and decision recommendations for precision agriculture use cases. You will predict outcomes as well as prescribe actions for customers.
  • Analyze and interpret high resolution machine and agronomic data to assess machine performance, operational productivity, and opportunities for improvement
  • Partner with product managers and engineers to jointly discover the key needs and desired benefits of the John Deere Operations Center for dealers, retailers, and other agriculture businesses
  • Communicate with impact your findings and methodologies to stakeholders at multiple levels
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching and supervision for junior data scientists and actively peer review science within the team

In this role you will be expected to regularly deliver high quality, innovative results while working closely with other data scientists, engineers, and domain experts across the company. What Skills You Need

  • 10+ years of data science experience
  • Exceptional skills with data analysis and interpretation, statistical inference, and predictive modeling
  • Demonstrated experience delivering data science solutions in SaaS products as part of a product team
  • 5 or more years in developing predictive ML / AI systems and with a strong track record of improving models through feature engineering
  • Strong experience with Python and use of software engineering best practices
  • A curious and inquisitive mind, with a desire to understand and solve problems
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analytical insights in a manner which is clearly understandable by non-experts
  • An interest in mentoring and coaching other data scientists, whether under your direction or as peers

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Previous experience building predictive models from precision agriculture data
  • Expertise with large geospatial datasets or satellite imagery
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a collaborative team environment that is distributed across time zones and locations
  • A strong track record of publications, presentations, and contributions to the data science community
  • Previous experience with Spark
  • Previous experience with Databricks

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Advanced degree with specialization in statistics, engineering, data science, computer vision, machine learning, mathematics, or computer science OR equivalent work experience
