Job Description

Overview of the Position:

Data Science Instructors are the backbones of the organization and play a critically important role in providing quality educational services to Bootcamp students, corporate trainees and students of avocational data science courses. Full-Time Data Science Instructors need to have strong machine learning backgrounds and industry experience. Full-Time Data Science Instructors are assigned teaching and non-teaching responsibilities based on the needs of the Academy. The key job responsibilities listed below are for typical full-time Data Science Instructors who do not hold administrative titles.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Embrace the mission and vision of NYC Data Science Academy and fulfill the position responsibilities with dedication and efforts for excellence.
• Review Bootcamp curricular materials for a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the curriculum structure and how each curricular component fits into the overall curriculum.
• Study the special areas of focus in the curriculum to gain full mastery of instructional materials for effective instructional delivery.
• Develop personal lesson plans for assigned portions of curriculum for effective instructional delivery and assessment of student learning.
• Conduct on an average nine (9) hours of classroom instruction per week in the residential data science Bootcamp, including instruction when necessary in corporate training and stand-alone avocational courses.
• Do green screen recording when necessary to generate curriculum materials for use with e-learning and/or Interactive Distance Learning courses.
• Participate in corporate consulting and special projects to help the Academy engage in partnership with business entities.
• Read printed and electronic literature in the data science discipline to keep current with trends in the field.
• Present one research report per quarter to a faculty meeting on chosen topics of interest in the data science discipline.
• Seek opportunities for presentation at professional data science conferences and meet-up sessions.
• Write one blog per quarter to help promote data science Bootcamp program, corporate training courses or stand-alone avocational courses.
• Provide guidance to Bootcamp students on their required projects and/or their respective learning challenges.
• Evaluate student projects and project presentations to provide constructive feedback to students.
• Perform quality assurance work on Bootcamp curricular materials and provide feedback to the Bootcamp Manager and the Curriculum Review Committee.
• Attend and participate in regular faculty meetings.
• Attend and participate in faculty in-service training sessions on instructional methodology, classroom management strategies, and strategies for assessing student learning.
• Participate in school events aimed at promoting the Academy’s programs and training courses.
• Perform other work-related tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor or as dictated by the situation.

Position Requirements:

• Holds at least a bachelor’s degree or higher credential from an accredited institution of higher learning (Master’s and Doctoral Degrees highly desirable) and has specialized in data sciencefield through either training or work experience.
• Has strong machine learning background.
• Has experience in one or more areas of data science through industry-related data science projects or working on data science projects in an industry.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
• Strength in critical thinking and problem-solving and able to work independently.
