The Opportunity

FreshBooks is seeking a Manager, Data Engineering to join our team. As part of the Data Team, you will help us build and shape the future of our Data Engineering teams, framework and processes. What you'll do:

  • Build, mentor and lead a team that specializes in data engineering.
  • Help us refine our Data Engineering vision and turn it into reality with help of your team and our colleagues from the larger Data & Analytics team. 
  • Maintain high standards of engineering and code quality within the teams by establishing good practices and habits.
  • Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the teams.
  • Contribute to Data Engineering roadmaps and budgeting processes. 
  • Collaborate closely with platform, infrastructure and architecture teams to ensure our data engineering systems are well structured for scale, performance and cost.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders, Data Engineers, Data Product Owners, Data Analysts and Data Scientists in project assessments and high level solution design. 
  • Work in a fast-paced agile environment and effectively prioritize activities with multiple teams and stakeholders. 
  • Collaborate with our team of Agile experts to refine our methodologies. 

What you bring:

  • Enthusiasm for data engineering!
  • 5+ years experience in the data industry including 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles like data warehousing, data integrations, cloud environments, data privacy, security, and compliance. 
  • Experience collaborating with operations teams, data analysts, data scientists and technical marketing teams in the creation and maintenance of enterprise-scale data products. 
  • Experience working with software development tracking, collaboration and roadmapping software like Jira, Aha, etc. 
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Experience writing code in SQL, Python or similar languages. 
  • Experience building technical products on GCP, Azure or AWS. 
  • The ability to remain highly organized across multiple and concurrent activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

What you might bring:

  • Experience with industry BI tools like Looker, Tableau, Power BI, etc. 
  • Expertise in data governance, security and privacy fields. 
  • Subject matter data expertise in the SaaS industry.
