As the Senior Manager Asphalt Technical Services, you will direct and manage asphalt product technical activities throughout the asphalt supply chain. This includes QA/QC activities, trouble-shooting asphalt production issues at the refinery/terminal level, as well as implementing existing product technology enhancements, and new product technology development.

• Identify, evaluate and develop new asphalt product technologies and enhancements of current products.
• Study, guide and collaborate with FHWA officials, state DOT Design & Materials Engineers and other specifying agencies on new asphalt specifications, technologies and enhancements.
• Manage and coordinate purchased additives and blendstocks within the refinery and terminal network.
• Consult with asphalt lab personnel to formulate asphalt products.
• Provide technical support to marketers, contractors and state agencies as needed.
• Participate with industry trade conferences and technical meetings.
• Plan and present formal and informal technical presentations to educate and lead agencies and customers as well as all internal groups within the asphalt supply chain.
• Assist Crude Supply and P&E Departments to optimize crude selection for meeting required asphalt specifications while maintaining system economics.
• Consult on supply chain and production efforts between refinery and terminals to optimize asset utilization and ensure consistent asphalt supply for customers.
• Optimize and update asphalt blend formulations to provide most economic solutions that meet specification.
• Advise on quality aspects related to export opportunities and shipping of asphalt via water to terminals.
• Collect/oversee/coordinate monthly submissions of QA/QC data and production reports to DOT Agencies.
• Coordinate with Valero HSE department regarding changing regulations affecting asphalt.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s or higher level degree in Science or Engineering required.
• Bachelor’s or higher level degree in Chemistry or related degree preferred.
• 12 years of experience in the following area(s): Dealing with petroleum refining, product development, marketing and sales, laboratory testing and product QA/QC required.
• Wiling and able to travel up to 25% of time required. 
• Direct laboratory and/or production experience with asphalt preferred.
• Superior technical and analytical skills related to asphalt preferred.
• Comprehensive training or knowledge in road construction, paving, and hot mix operations preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other work-related documentation preferred.
• Ability to abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive information, results, and communications preferred.
• Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency timeframes preferred.
