Job Description

The Lead Data Engineer s a critical role in designing, developing, and delivering Disability Finance SQL Server (DFSS) solutions, in alignment with MetLife’s Enterprise Data Management Strategy. The Lead Software Development Engineer supports evaluation and selection of existing (or creation of new) best practices, design patterns, architecture, and frameworks suitable to successfully develop and deliver large and/or complex programs and projects.

The Lead Software Development Engineer will work with on-site and offshore development teams, engage participants, generate artifacts, solicit feedback, communicate, and drive collaboration with key stakeholders and business leaders across the Strategy, Delivery, Enterprise Architecture, QA and other organizations across MetLife’s Global Technology and Operations (GTO) and Lines of Business (LOBs). 

Key Responsibilities:

The Lead Software Development Engineer, Data & Analytics is accountable for the development and optimization of key data Core Assets platforms (like DFSS) used by the US business for customer/partner reporting. This position is an engineering and technology-focused role requiring experience working in a matrix driven organization across multiple platforms using a variety of process, engineering, and operational methodologies.

Responsibilities include requirements analysis, design, development, and integration leveraging enterprise platforms and architecture. The candidate serves as a technical expert to the project team and must demonstrate knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), databases, Informatica PowerCenter, data warehouse implementation processes, ETL, data quality along with data governance, data profiling and data lineage.

• Oversees large/critical technology projects, typically spanning the entire organization or include various and distinct LOB’s. Serves as a liaison between the business and the IT area, translating varied business needs into application requirements.
• Develops detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, status reports and monitors the progress of initiatives, milestones, and budgets to ensure timeliness and deliverables are met.
• Leads project meetings and provides updates to senior leadership regarding project status and the application and implementation of technology.
• Manages critical relationships with IT, consultants and vendors, internal end users, and business customers/leadership and project team members that are not direct reports that may span the entire organization.
• Provides L3 support to AMS for incident management on data pipelines in their portfolio.

Required Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

• Bachelors’ Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or related field
• 5+ years of experience in leading, architecting, designing an Enterprise data warehouse and application development using ETL tools – one or more of the following: SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Informatica PowerCenter, Oracle and other enterprise technologies
• Shell scripting with any language

Preferred:

• Agile certification or PMP certification (Scrum Master / CSM – SAFe)
• Previous experience in insurance, financial services or management consulting organizations
• Python a plus
