Job Description

In an ongoing effort to grow and enrich MetLife’s data driven business strategy, the central Data and Analytics Center of Excellence is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support its stakeholders in US Financial Wellness. At a high level, the position provides advanced analytics and engineering support to the US Product team to design and develop products helping customers meeting their financial goals. At a low level, the role requires technical mastery (statistical programming, software engineering and model development), quantitative expertise (machine learning algorithms and how to apply them to solve real-world problem), and strong communication skills (understand business problems, structure and convey solutions that is understood by and useful to business leaders). 

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with a team to understand business problems, structure data-driven solutions and define key metrics for solution assessment
• Manipulate large-scale structured and unstructured datasets, perform data analysis to extract insights
• Collaborate with Data Scientists to develop, implement and test most appropriate algorithms for a given use-case; be able to review the work of data scientists and provide guidance
• Drive innovation by enhancing existing solutions and prototyping new ones
• Drive the development, validation, and implementation of new measurement methodologies, including client-focused impact assessments
• Perform unit testing, identify root causes and solve any bugs
• Ensure product quality, stability, and scalability by facilitating code reviews
• Ensure coding as well as overall development best practices are implemented
• Translate technical insights to non-technical audiences
• Design and analyze experiments
• Create reports, visualizations, and web applications

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

• Master’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, Actuarial Science, Economics or Analytics/Data Science
• 2+ years of experience in data science or similar function
• Proficiency in R or Python with a strong preference towards Python
• Experience in cloud application development (Microsoft Azure preferred)
• Strong programming and engineering skills
• Familiarity with DevOps tools, unit testing and CI/CD workflows including Git
• Strong expertise and hands-on experience in building statistical models including (but not restricted to) Regression, Classification, Clustering, Neural Network, Optimization
• Good written and oral communication, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders
• Ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity to get things done in a fast-paced environment
• Mentor and provide oversight to junior associates while serving as an example by sharing relevant best practices

Preferred:

• Experience working with Microsoft Azure and Azure functions
• Software/App/website development
• Backgound developing Recommender Systems
• Ph.D. in quantitative field
