Job Description

As a Data Scientist for Harvester Works located in East Moline, IL, you will lead the development and implementation of analytics-based solutions into the manufacturing operations. As the technical lead, you will set/ensure adherence to technical standards, resolve major technical impediments and lead advanced development work in the space of Data Science, Machine Learning and Cloud Development. Additionally, the role will:

  • Build, test, demonstrate, deploy, and maintain appropriate technology to solve key manufacturing problems
  • Educate leadership, colleagues, and peers on new technology
  • Build and maintain relationships with a diverse technical community both internal and external to John Deere
  • Mentor/coach junior and new talent to the organization
  • Act as thought leader in field of Data Science, Analytics, Machine Learning, and other emerging technologies.
  • Learn and apply appropriate data science techniques to solve business problems

What Skills You Need (Required skills/experiences

  • Knowledge of applied statistical analysis, modeling techniques, and data visualization methods
  • Proficiency in programming languages SQL, R, and/or Python
  • Ability to analyze, translate, and define business requirements into technical solutions
  • Experience in the design, development, testing and integration of advanced analytics and/or machine learning solutions (1+ years)
  • Skilled in interpersonal communications, collaboration, negotiation, and conflict resolution
  • Effectively communicating with large audiences of mixed technical backgrounds

What Makes You Stand Out (Desired skills/experiences)

  • Ability to demonstrate algorithm development and predictive modeling to solve problems
  • Domain knowledge of manufacturing processes or work experience in manufacturing support roles such as Engineering and Operations
  • Working knowledge with one or more of the following technologies
  • AWS MLOps Framework (Lambda, API Gateway, etc.) or Databricks
  • DS-ML Platforms: Databricks, DataRobot, AWS Sagemaker
  • Data Management: structed and unstructured
  • Ability to perform as a technical lead providing technical coaching and mentoring to others
  • Proven consulting skills and experience, influence effectively, ability to resolve impediments in a timely manner
  • Learning Agility / Innovative / Growth Mindset - desire and openness for continuous technical learning and identifying areas for application; willingness to deal with and thrive in uncertainty
  • Proficiency in programming languages Java, C#, C++, etc.
  • Experience with Agile software development

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering
  • Work experience should consist of a proven track record of efficiently designing, developing, and releasing machine learning products efficiently, predictably and sustainably, both independently and collaboratively.
