Job Description

The Associate Director, Utilization and Cost Optimization collaborates with application, product, finance, infrastructure and operations teams to optimize their practices for Cloud usage and access all available cost savings.

Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Utilization and Cost Optimization is focused on the design and implementation of services that provide optimization and management of Humana’s public cloud environments. The position will act as the lead on collaborating with application, product, finance, infrastructure and operations teams to optimize their practices for Cloud usage and access all available cost savings. This will include providing impactful analysis, insights and recommendations on how they can optimize their usage of cloud services, governing pricing controls through analysis and maintenance of reserved instances and developing automated reporting that enables teams to leverage best practices for running efficient cloud solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior level expertise on decisions and priorities regarding the enterprises overall Cloud cost strategy, consumption and optimization.
  • Monitor and report on cloud consumption in various accounts and projects utilizing cloud-native and 3rd party tools
  • Review cloud utilization and make recommendations on Reserved Instance strategy, utilization optimization opportunities, product architectural recommendations to promote optimization, and discounts for optimization.
  • Perform consumption analysis to define and execute reserved instances and savings plans.
  • Develop opportunities to optimize costs and operational improvement with key infrastructure and service providers.
  • Develop and maintain cost and forecasting models to provide required insights on current and future cloud spend
  • Partner with application, product and infrastructure teams on ongoing basis to help them understand their cloud spend and optimize it based on their unique needs.
  • Act as subject matter expert in advising on new and different cloud services and resources.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6 or more years of technical experience
  • 2 or more years of management experience
  • Advanced understanding of cloud platforms, consoles, and services (Azure, AWS, and Google) including Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports, Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Sustained Use Discounts/Committed and other Cloud cost mechanics.
  • Deep understanding of core public & private cloud billing, cost management, and data visualization tools (e.g. Cloudability, Azure Pricing Calculator, AWS Cost Explorer).
  • A developmental mindset with the ability to discern patterns, drive efficiencies, and lower total cost of ownership for technology processes and solutions.
  • Passion for and skills in resource optimization to improve cloud efficiency.
  • Strong organizational, task, and project management skills.
  • Self-driven and able to work across diverse technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within an organization and influence leadership.
  • Detail oriented with excellent documentation skills/methodologies, who is able to successfully manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing chargeback, showback, budgeting and forecasting as core capabilities of cloud financial management.
  • Experience creating advanced product level visibility that will help drive better business decisions and cost accountability.
  • Experience building a cloud financial management roadmap.
  • Experience with large and complex cloud environments.
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner preferred
  • AWS & Azure certifications preferred
  • Knowledge in Ansible, Python, API queries, and Power BI is a plus.

Additional Information

Associates are required to be fully COVID vaccinated, including booster, or undergo weekly COVID testing and wear a face covering while at work. The weekly testing will need to be done through an approved Humana vendor, and unvaccinated associates should follow all social distancing and masking protocols if they are required to come into a Humana facility or work outside of their home.

If progressed to offer, candidates will be required to:

  • Provide proof of full vaccination, including booster OR
  • Provide proof of applicable exemption including any required supporting documentation

Medical, religious, and state exemptions will be available.

Work-At-Home Requirements

  • WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.
  • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25×10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.
  • Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
  • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information
