Job Description
The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer on the Provider Insights and Claims Analytics team uses the latest tools, technology, and techniques to solve complex business problems and provide insights to decision-makers using data from a variety of sources. Typical assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors and collaboration with peers and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer on the Provider Insights and Claims Analytics team leverage their technical and business expertise to help senior leaders, contractors, and operations colleagues improve processes related to provider contracting by analyzing claims and internal process data in order to generate actionable insights. Associates in this role will begin to influence department’s strategy and are given considerable latitude in determining objectives and technical approaches in order to complete their assigned work. Senior business intelligence engineers are expected to complete their work with minimal direction and according to department standards and best-practices.
- Designs and architects data sets, primarily in SQL Server and Microsoft Azure
- Optimizes databases and tables to maximize performance of data processes and BI tools
- Works directly with market and corporate executives and their teams, helping them leverage data and technology to maximize business impact
- Assesses business processes and recommend improvements
- Partners with business teams and analytics/technology professionals to identify data and technology related needs
- Writes queries to pull/summarize/analyze data from various data sets and platforms
- Analyzes data to derive insights
- Creates repeatable, automated ETL packages
- Builds online interactive reports
- Leads cross-functional initiatives
- Provides consultation to business teams related to processes, data, and technology
- Provides mentoring to teammates with respect to consultative and technical skills in order to promote best practices and grow the organization

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of data analysis experience OR Master's degree and 3+ years of data analysis experience
- Advanced proficiency with SQL across multiple database environments, such as MS SQL Server and Oracle
- Experience building extract-transform-load (ETL) pipelines in tools like SQL Server Integration Server (SSIS), Snaplogic, Azure Data Factory, or similar
- Demonstrated experience creating data visualizations with large datasets in Power BI or similar
- Proficiency in understanding Healthcare related data
- Advanced experience working with big and complex data sets within large organizations
- Substantial experience analyzing very large datasets to solve a wide variety of business problems
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication to senior and executive leadership
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple, concurrent data-driven projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
- Proficiency using Python for data analysis and data transformation
- Experience with Microsoft Power Apps and/or Power Automate
- Prior experience with healthcare data or Humana’s internal provider data or processes
