Job Description

The Hybrid Cloud Engineer position will deliver, manage, and promote our modern IT Hybrid Cloud service capabilities. The position will be focused on engineering and delivery of our VMware technologies in private cloud and public cloud environments.

The candidate must have a broad knowledge of VMware and public cloud infrastructure. In addition to providing engineering support for the VMware environment, the candidate will also use automation and orchestration to advance our VMware and hybrid cloud capabilities. The position assists in designing the enterprise computing environment and oversees server refresh, builds, and migrations. The candidate must have a strong understanding of VMware vSphere including vCenter, ESXi, and the vRealize Suite. A working knowledge of networking, storage, compute, fiber channel connectivity, VMware Cloud and Microsoft Azure cloud services is required.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administration of our VMware vSphere environment and associated systems to include:
  • Build and manage new virtual servers and templates, working with the Automation team to incorporate these processes into Marathon’s automation program.
  • Plan and perform vSphere platform upgrades across the Enterprise Infrastructure environment.
  • Perform workload migrations across multiple environments and data centers.
  • Leads and drives improvements in the company’s VMware environment.
  • Provides consulting, guidance, and ownership as appropriate to project teams, business analysts, service delivery personnel, clients, and management.
  • Competency in writing and maintaining custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower downtime due to required human intervention. 
  • Documents recurring, complex problems and provides recommendation for resolution and prevention.
  • Manages VMware and cloud environments in accordance with company standards including compliance with cybersecurity standards and best practices.
  • Ensures consistent Operating System hardening and compliance through the development and use of tooling and automation.
  • Develops processes and procedures to support our day-to-day operations.
  • Participates in testing a system or solution (or change thereto) prior to placing it in effect to ensure that it compiles with all standards, and that all functions are working closely.
  • Can manage multiple project tasks at any given time.
  • Interfaces with other vendors as required to resolve complex issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or Computer Engineering, or relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years IT Experience
  • Microsoft Windows Server (2012-2019) administration experience required.
  • Public Cloud platform (e.g., Azure, AWS) experience required.
  • Highly proficient in VMware vSphere, vRealize Suite, and Site Recovery Manager
  • VMware VCP certification preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with system automation and orchestration platforms (e.g. Jenkins, Ansible, Azure DevOps, Python).
  • Knowledge and experience with several infrastructure software tools and platforms (e.g. SQL, Hadoop, Oracle).
  • Knowledge and experience working with programming languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python).

SKILLS:

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience migrating workloads across public/private cloud environments.
  • Ability to generate and maintain scripts for automation.
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service.
