Job Description

Gordian delivers leading data and technology solutions to the construction industry across North America and Europe. We are looking for a talented, motivated Director of Data Engineering capable of leading Data Engineers, BI Analysts, and Data Science team members to mature and evolve Gordian’s data assets, data partnerships, and data as a service offering. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills to manage Gordian’s Master Data Management (MDM) strategy, understand the governance structure for data models and algorithms, and can lead data engineering teams through the SDLC process. The candidate will be required to work cross-functionally with the Application & Operations Architect, Dir. Of Software Development, Dir. Of Data Operations and other Engineering leaders. Therefore, this candidate should demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities:

• Lead 3 Data Engineering scrum teams and 1 Data Science team to deliver on company defined objectives and initiatives
• Build out and modernize the Gordian data model, including but not limited to, data pipelines, entities models/ definitions, and automated ingestion processes
• Scale data flows throughout the organization to speed customer delivery, collect additional data insights, and drive a data-driven decision-making culture
• Define and execute a technical roadmap to integrate Gordian data assets into third-party services and integrate application metadata to better guide users in their workflows and decision-making processes
• Defining governance and acceptance by which data assets can be normalized and auto processed
• Support the build out of a business intelligence function including data pipelines
• Participate in strategic planning processes to continuously define the next evolution of the Gordian data management process
• Create and maintain a roadmap of data flows, normalization processes and algorithms to be developed with expected gains at each point of the roadmap
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams ensuring data application, data Engineering and Data Operations are building new assets aligned to the Enterprise Data Operations Architecture

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years’ experience leading software development teams/ organizations
• 7+ years’ experience demonstrating command of entity definitions, data flows, data structures, and data queries
• 5+ years’ experience developing data solutions for internal or external stakeholders
• SQL databases, queries, and general understanding of data structures
• Technical knowledge of business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, etc
• Demonstrated experience with productizing data science algorithms
• Experience with natural language processing, ML, and Python
• Knowledge of the SDLC (software development lifecycle), including Agile principles
• Mathematical background where statistical models have been used to drive business decisions
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics or Mathematics
• Experience with in-direct management or in-direct influence of cross-functional teams
• Required to provide examples of KPIs and plans to support/ deliver on those KPIs
• Ability to work interface directly with enterprise customers
• Occasional travel to other Gordian offices
