About the job

At Google, data drives all of our decision-making. Quantitative Analysts work all across the organization to help shape Google's business and technical strategies by processing, analyzing and interpreting huge data sets. Using analytical excellence and statistical methods, you mine through data to identify opportunities for Google and our clients to operate more efficiently, from enhancing advertising efficacy to network infrastructure optimization to studying user behavior. As an analyst, you do more than just crunch the numbers. You work with Engineers, Product Managers, Sales Associates and Marketing teams to adjust Google's practices according to your findings. Identifying the problem is only half the job; you also figure out the solution.

Sage is a joint Google Assistant and Google Research effort to make fundamental improvements to our contextual NLP systems for the Google Assistant, leveraging recent research developments at Google and beyond.

Sage (and Google Assistant more broadly) resembles a startup - fast-paced but fun environment with constantly evolving/expanding goals. This team specializes in linguistic analysis and semantic representations. We maintain platforms and methods for effective semantic modeling and ontology-building that power today's Google Assistant, and help shape the longer-term direction of Google Assistant's conversational abilities.

You have a background in linguistic analysis, especially syntax, semantics and/or pragmatics, and are comfortable working in ambiguity and wearing different hats to drive progress.

Responsibilities

  • Design or extend analytic frameworks and semantic representations to support richer models of language use.
  • Work closely with multiple teams and roles (Project Management, engineers and researchers) by providing linguistic expertise and direction for new NLP capabilities (e.g., dialog, ambiguity, inference).
  • Propose and implement improvements of software platforms that support linguistic analysis.
