Job Description

We are seeking a Director to build and lead a team focused on engineering data strategy & solutions. This role will partner closely across engineering and executive leadership to build and design innovative systems and processes to further enhance and harness critical engineering data points. In this role you will enhance data to improve our understanding of engineering systems and improve them where necessary, playing a key role in the engineering lifecycle and creation of mission critical datapoints, solution frameworks and ultimately products.
Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) brings together the Company’s best-in-class product, technology, and commercialization teams together into one global organization. DMED is responsible for the P&L management and all distribution, network and engineering operations, sales, advertising, data, and certain key technology functions worldwide for the Company’s content engines. DMED also manages operations of the Company’s streaming services including Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and Disney+ Hotstar; and domestic broadcast and cable television networks.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide team leadership and direction for solutioning of engineering datapoints driving intelligence on the health of our services, clients, products and offerings
  • Own strategic engineering solutioning of data approaches, including roadmapping with an emphasis on ensuring high quality processes and scalability across all practices
  • Manage managers leading a team of engineerings responsible for data solutions, partnering closely across the engineering organization to ensure all datapoints are of high quality
  • Serve as an executive contact for engineering and non-engineering stakeholders throughout the organization
  • Develop a deep understanding of our engineering infrastructure and systems that support our customer facing products.
  • Ensure that our engineering data capabilities are able to provide adequate feedback to developer teams, including those leveraging datapoints for mission critical algorithms impacting the customer


Basic Qualifications:

  • 9+ years of experience in an engineering, data analysis, solution architect, or similar role
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team
  • Familiarity with SDLC processes (Github) and config based deployment practices (YAML etc..)
  • Strong sense of ownership and responsibility over team deliverables and trajectory
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills and innate curiosity to troubleshoot and dive deep into complex technical issues, underscoring iteration to come-up with the possible solutions and communicate them effectively to senior leadership
  • High familiarity with recent innovate data platforms such as Databricks, Jupyter, Snowflake, Datadog, Splunk

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years of experience in streaming industry, knowledge of client and server side architecture a plus
  • 3+ years of Python, Spark, Pyspark or Scala

Required Education

  • A BA or BS in a quantitative field (Business, Math/Statistics, Economics, CS, Engineering, or similar) is desired
