YOUR FUTURE ROLE
As a DevOps Engineer within the SAP Services Delivery organization you will have the chance to combine very different activities:

• you will support individual top customers for technical challenges and will assess the DevOps status and situation of customer SAP landscapes
• you will support colleagues while they work on a customer’s DevOps challenges with your expertise from the back-office
• you will design and develop intelligent tooling and leading practices for services to achieve more efficient and predictable outcomes

For this task, we are looking for passionate and communicative people who enjoy working in a team. In this role, you will experience a variety of challenges and tasks. You will consult our customers as well as SAP internal and our customers colleagues in the broad area of DevOps. A good overview and understanding on all aspects of SAP DevOps – on premise as well as in the cloud – is the basis for you to become a respected and trusted advisor for the DevOps experts at our customers, enhanced by deepened knowledge in your specific area of expertise to apply state of the art DevOps methodologies. Since we provide services at our customer sites, business travel will be part of this role.

DevOps engineers need a passion for programming and scripting. Typical programming languages that DevOps engineers deal with are Python, Java, Ruby, Batch and ABAP.

Dealing with open source technologies and tools (e.g. git, Jenkins) is a central part of the work. For the administrative side, knowledge of various server systems for Windows or Linux is also required, especially security concepts are important.

DevOps Engineers must cover various development and orchestration tools in order to run a complete lifecycle process for software in a business environment. Therefore, you should be familiar and experienced with the following areas:

• Software Development – You should know how to use an IDE which includes knowledge in OO programming model as well as common tools for testing and populating source code of various application architectures by using version control systems.
• Continuous Integration – You should know about popular test environments and E2E integration test frameworks. A basic knowledge about containerized environments is mandatory. Experience with various DevOps environment like Azure DevOps is appreciated
• Continuous Deployment – You should know about scalable cloud environments with high availability. Common build and operation tools like Terraform and Kubernetes are widely used. Experience with these tools (or comparable) is needed

In addition to technical and professional knowledge, other important competencies are independent work and soft skills. This includes teamwork and communication skills in the sense of the DevOps culture of bringing together previously different departments. The work of DevOps Engineers should always be coordinated with the entire team. As in most IT sectors, willingness to learn is essential as this area is constantly changing.

YOUR PROFILE

• You own a good university degree in computer science or a related discipline.
• You have a strong background in and good overall understanding of DevOps
• You’re proud of your excellent analytical skills and your capability to dig into complex topics.
• You’re a passionate team-worker with good communication skills.
• You’re able to present complex information in a clear and precise manner to our customers
• Exchanging thoughts and ideas in German and English is easy for you.
