About the job

Technical Writers take complex information and communicate it clearly, concisely, and accurately without relying on technical or corporate jargon. With a unique cross-functional perspective, technical writers at Google are the key link between our engineers, marketing associates, developer advocates, and external developers. You juggle a variety of writing projects, such as technical concept documents, how-to guides, example code, FAQs, and product announcements.

As a Technical Writer for Google's developer products, you'll contribute to one of several projects that educate developers about using tools and technologies--both outside and inside of Google. You'll work with other Technical Writers, Engineers, and Product Managers to determine needs for developer features that need documentation, then create document plans, draft new developer guides, and resolve issues with existing documentation to keep it up to date.

You might be studying computer science but also enjoy writing clear and concise documentation, or you're a strong writer and communicator with some scripting or programming knowledge, such as JavaScript, Python, or Java. You might also have a background as a developer, and write as a hobby; or perhaps you're an experienced communicator who loves digging deep into code. One thing is for certain—you are passionate about helping people learn how to apply technology to solve real problems. Whatever your academic background, you want to help developers build amazing things and you make efforts in your writing to be clear and actionable.

Google is and always will be an engineering company. We hire people with a broad set of technical skills who are ready to address some of technology's greatest challenges and make an impact on millions, if not billions, of users. At Google, engineers not only revolutionize search, they routinely work on massive scalability and storage solutions, large-scale applications and entirely new platforms for developers around the world. From Google Ads to Chrome, Android to YouTube, Social to Local, Google engineers are changing the world one technological achievement after another.
