Job Description
Our Language team's mission is to develop GPT advancements by exploring and forecasting future capabilities and resource needs. To do this, we seek a deep understanding of the scaling of our models across multiple orders of magnitude to optimize for best-case performance at the largest scale.
About the role
Our Language team offers you a unique opportunity to make significant contributions at the limits of modern natural language processing at the largest scale. We value impact over novelty – we’ve found outstanding results from solid engineering with good design, implementation, and benchmarking.
Representative projects on the team include:
- We believe data is underexplored. You will have opportunities to research and develop large datasets which will underlie the future generations of the world’s most powerful language models.
- We believe in exploring the limits of scale. As we expand to larger systems, you will have opportunities to trailblaze by tackling novel machine learning and systems engineering problems.
- We believe one key to OpenAI’s groundbreaking machine learning results is the foresight and autonomy to build and enable research infrastructure. You will have opportunities to make company-wide contributions that fuel our next innovations.
We expect you to have:
- Strong programming skills
- Experience working in large distributed systems in ML
- A track record of demonstrating autonomy
- Ability to select, replicate, and implement new ML results
Nice to have:
- Past experience in creating high-performance implementations of deep learning algorithms
- Past experience with scaling laws, NLP, or adjacent research projects
